Sophia Loren, 87, is known for her show-stopping beauty and as one of the most iconic movie stars who built a formidable career in Hollywood. The Italian-born actress oozed glamour when she burst onto the scene in the 1950s.

The stunner, who is one of the remaining stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema, was known to effortlessly go back and forth from US-based to Italian productions.

She made history in 1961 as the first performer to win an Academy Award for a foreign-language role with Two Women, in which she starred as a strong-willed mother who braves an assault to save her daughter.
